Jurassic World, l’attore Justice Smith fa coming out: «Black Queer Lives Matter»

La rivolta statunitense contro il razzismo nelle forze dell’ordine e nella società al grido di «Black Lives Matter» ha coinvolto diversi personaggi del mondo dello spettacolo, che si sono coraggiosamenti esposti contro l’amministrazione Trump e a sostegno delle minoranze. Tra questi c’è sicuramente Justice Smith, che ha deciso di metterci la faccia in solidarietà a tutti gli afroamericani LGBT+, doppiamente discriminati.

Ieri, l’attore di Jurassic World – Il Regno Distrutto e di Pokémon: Detective Pikachu ha pubblicato su Instagram un video in cui partecipava a una manifestazione a New Orleans insieme al suo fidanzato, il collega Nicholas Ashe, presentandolo quindi ai fan in concomitanza col proprio coming out.

«Abbiamo cantato “Black Trans Lives Matter”, “Black Queer Lives Matter”, “All Black Lives Matter” – ha raccontato Smith – Come un uomo queer nero, sono rimasto deluso nel vedere certe persone desiderose di dire “Black Lives Matter”, ma tenere a freno la lingua quando viene aggiunto Trans/Queer. Voglio ribadire questo sentimento: se la tua rivoluzione non include voci queer, è contro i neri».

L’attore ha poi ricordato l’episodio di Tony McDade, uomo nero transgender ammazzato dalla polizia poche ore dopo la morte di George Floyd, spiegando che la strada da percorrere non deve passare per il tentativo di normalizzarsi rispetto ai maschi, ai bianchi e agli etero.

«Si tratta di chiedere ciò che avrebbero dovuto darci dall’inizio – afferma Smith – Cosa avrebbe dovuto essere dato agli individui neri, queer e trans dall’inizio. Che è il diritto di esistere, vivere e prosperare in pubblico, senza paura di persecuzioni o minacce di violenza». L’attore ha concluso regalando alcune foto gioiose insieme al suo ragazzo, tra cui quella di un bacio: «C’è così tanta tragedia nella cronologia degli ultimi due giorni, quindi ho aggiunto alcune foto di me e Nic».

As a black queer man myself, I was disappointed to see certain people eager to say Black Lives Matter, but hold their tongue when Trans/Queer was added. I want to reiterate this sentiment: if your revolution does not include Black Queer voices, it is anti-black. If your revolution is okay with letting black trans people like #TonyMcDade slip through the cracks in order to solely liberate black cishet men, it is anti-black. You are trying to push yourself through the door of a system designed against you, and then shut the door behind you. It is in our conditioning to get as close to whiteness, straightness, maleness as we can because that’s where the power is. And if we appeal to it, maybe it’ll give us a slice. But the revolution is not about appeal. It is about demanding what should have been given to us from the beginning. What should have been given to black, queer, and trans individuals from the beginning. Which is the right to exist. To live and prosper in public. Without fear of persecution or threat of violence.
